Presenters Biography
Sam has been an operational firefighter for just over 9 years. Prior to this he spent 5 years serving as a police officer with Victoria Police.
In 2017 he completed a scholarship funded research tour to the United States researching the response to terrorism and other hostile events. Since then he has gone on to complete a Graduate Certificate in Tactical Medicine and a Master of Terrorism and Security Studies, during which he published a research paper ‘Risks associated with the use of fire as a weapon by terrorists in the Australian context.’ This research has been adapted for this presentation on planning a medical response to such events.
Sam’s interests include improving the integration between emergency service agencies in the response to terrorism and other high-threat situations to enhance responder safety and patient outcomes.
